In today's world, we talk a lot about the bad that people do. For instance, we all know every morbid detail of the Tiger Woods drama and the Jon and Kate Plus Eight debacle. We don't see as much good news as we'd like.
The story I want to share today is a good story. No, scratch that, a great story. You've probably seen it before, but it never hurts to hear something again.
A softball player hit her first EVER homerun during a playoffs game. As she rounded 1st base, she collapsed with a knee injury. Apparently NCAA rules stated something that did not allow her teammates to come to her aid. If they did, she would be out, and her only homerun ever would not count. If her coach subbed in a pinch runner, the homer would only count as a single. Tough spot to be in.
Thankfully for the player, and amazing above all else, two players from the opposing team got off the bench, and carried the player around the bases, briefly stopping at each one so she could touch the bag. They did this, even though they knew they would probably lose the game. Oh, and did I mention that this was during the playoffs?
In the end, the home team did lose. When asked about it, one of the players responded:
"In the end, it is not about winning and losing so much," Holtman said. "It was about this girl. She hit it over the fence and was in pain, and she deserved a home run."
I just love stories like this! Great teamwork and good P.R. to boot! Want to read the whole story? Find it here. There's also a YouTube link.
